Don’t Wait—Declutter Now to Save Time & Money Later
Here at Shleppers Moving & Storage, we feel strongly about downsizing your space before you move. Not only does downsizing minimize the number of items you’ll have to sort through, deliberate over, toss out, pack up, move out, unbox and ultimately re-organize— it also declutters your present AND future living spaces while simultaneously decluttering your mind!
Trust us, we’ve been at this a long time (over 40 years to be exact). If you take our suggestions below to declutter your house now, you’ll be thanking yourself later when it comes time to commence your move! If not… don’t say we didn’t warn you!
“Sparking Joy” by Tidying Up
If you have not yet heard of Marie Kondo, well, now you have— and you can thank us later. This lean, serene tidying machine is causing the nation to declutter their homes by asking yourself if the item in question “sparks joy” for you. According to Marie Kondo, if you organize your entire house properly once, you shouldn’t have to go through the process ever again. Let’s take a deeper look at the method behind the de-madness…
How to Declutter Your Home
Tidying expert Marie Kondo is the star of Netflix’s, “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo.” Whereas most organizational methods suggest attacking your clutter room-by-room, Marie advocates tidying up by category. Following her order is crucial to completing your decluttering process. Begin with clothes, then continue on to books, papers, miscellaneous belongings, and last but not least, sentimental items.
As you move through this process of cleaning your home, Kondo states the importance of only keeping items that “spark joy” (a.k.a. speak to the heart). For items that no longer spark joy, Kondo advises that you thank the belongings for serving you, and then peacefully let them go.
Benefits of Tidying Up
Not only does Marie’s method foster a clean, decluttered and organized living space—it also promotes mindfulness, defined as, “…the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us” according to mindful.org.
