History Behind Rose Hill

Rose Hill is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan, surrounded by the neighborhoods of Murray Hill, Gramercy Park, Kips Bay, the Flatiron District, and NoMad. The previously unnamed area is sometimes considered to be a part of NoMad because the name “Rose Hill” was primarily used for the area in the 18th and 19th centuries and is not commonly used to refer to the area today. In the early 19th century, Rose Hill was home to a female seminary, a five-acre botanical garden, and a boarding house-hotel for the wealthy. However, by the turn of the 20th century, the name seems to continue to disappear.
