Moving to the Suburbs from NYC: What You Need to Know

Sometimes in life, you need a change. For some, that means moving across the country, while for others, it might mean moving to a neighboring city. If you live in one of the five NYC boroughs and have been considering a change, perhaps moving to the suburbs from NYC is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

We are going to detail a few of our favorite options below, including Port Chester, Long Beach, and Tarrytown. Also, be sure to contact Shleppers Moving & Storage if you do decide to move to the suburbs from NYC. As the area’s moving experts, we know how to move just about anyone or anything!

Port Chester: Small City with a Laid-back Lifestyle

Port Chester might be just what you are after. That’s not to say that the city doesn’t have plenty to do. Port Chester boasts a varied restaurant climate. This means that you are in for a treat if you consider yourself even a slight foodie. The town has a large Latino community, which means there’s plenty of authentic Mexican cuisine. A downtown area also offers a nice place for a shop and stroll, and The Capitol Theatre is the place to check out all the newest shows. Grand Central station is less than an hour away by train – meaning you’re never too far away from the action of NYC!

Long Beach: Where Beach Hippies & City Slickers Collide

Long Beach – possessing a large surfing community, a bustling boardwalk, and plenty of restaurants – might be the perfect yearlong vacation. There is a large nightlife scene with upscale bars and clubs, and the views are nothing short of extraordinary. You can reach Penn Station by train in less than 45 minutes. Considering what you are getting in this beach town, the cost of living is much more affordable than you would think.

Tarrytown: Did Someone Say, “Craft Beer”?

What about, “pizza”? How about both? Pubs and Pizzerias are one of the staples of Tarrytown. This affordable suburb offers plenty of history – such as historic mansions and estates. A downtown with plenty of top-tier restaurants, vintage toy stores, and sports shops rounds out this small little town. There are also many multi-mile long hiking trails, offering plenty to do on your day off.

 Off to the ‘Burbs

Have we convinced you that the suburbs might not be as bad as the stigma they receive in NYC? If you’re ready to move – or even just considering it –  contact Shleppers to get a FREE QUOTE on your move today!
