Shleppers believes that going green should not be taken lightly.  For 40+ years, our professionally trained and licensed New York movers have been finding more ways to be more environmentally-friendly throughout our operations.  For instance, we have reduced the amount of paper used in our business, use more fuel-efficient vehicles, and buy and sell environmentally friendly products such as recycled boxes and wrapping paper.

Here are some quick and affordable eco-friendly storage tips to use during your next move with Shleppers.

Proper Storage Facility

It is crucial to make sure your items are stored somewhere they won’t get damaged by the temperature. If they are damaged, then the belongings will end up in a landfill which is the opposite of eco-friendly.  Instead of storing items in a shed, cold basement, or hot attic, use an insulated storage unit to make sure your belongings are protected and will not get damaged.

Eco-friendly Materials

Use biodegradable packing peanuts made from recycled materials or paper towels, which are also biodegradable, and can be used in place of bubble wrap for those items that are fragile. Instead of plastic boxes and containers, use cardboard boxes that are reusable and can even be recycled.  Once you are done with these materials, give them to someone who needs them, re-use them for your own needs, or recycle them.

Pack Sustainably

Get creative with your packing and use alternative options instead of boxes, tape, and plastic. Instead of boxes, use laundry baskets or even suitcases to store items in.  Tape is a costly and an environmentally-dangerous material.  A good substitute to tape, is zip ties or using Shleppers’ industrial strength rubber bands.  Furthermore, store items with towels and blankets instead of non-biodegradable packing peanuts or bubble wrap.

Recycle Packing Material

Recycling and other green measures can help reduce the amount of garbage going to the landfills. Besides recycling paper, cardboard boxes, and other biodegradable materials, be sure to recycle all newspapers, aluminum cans, and glass bottles.
