College graduation means it’s finally time to upgrade from student housing and get your own place. Finding an apartment in New York City is an art and a science. You want a place that’s affordable, within a reasonable distance of your workplace, in a neighborhood that’s both fun and safe.
Not sure where to start looking? Let us help you – we’re professional movers! These neighborhoods are currently attracting a good number of recent college grads and young professionals:
Harlem: Reasonable rent and an easy access express train to Midtown make Harlem attractive; there’s great food and nightlife too.
Bed-Stuy: This Brooklyn neighborhood is surprisingly affordable. If you live near the A train, commuting’s easy; if you don’t, plan on taking the bus. Very diverse dining options.
Sunset Park: Come for the affordable housing, stay for the fantastic food and the relentless energy of New York’s fastest growing Chinatown.
Flatbush: Love that college-living vibe but want everything to be just a little bit more mature and put together? Flatbush is for you. Easy commute to Midtown, great food & much safer than it once was.
Inwood: Not entirely thrilled about living in a big city? Inwood’s got a pleasant outdoor vibe and a lot of green space yet is budget friendly. Expect a half hour commute to Midtown.
The Lower East Side: If you’ve got the money to spend and want the classic New Yorker lifestyle, an apartment on the Lower East Side delivers both. Short commutes are an added bonus.
Ridgewood: Located on the edge of Brooklyn and Queens, Ridgewood has lots of new construction as well as converted warehouse spaces that make great first New York apartments for college graduates.
Kensington: Need some elbow room? Head to this Brooklyn neighborhood, where rents are really affordable given the size of the homes. Prospect Park is a nice perk to calling Kensington home.
