How to Pack and Move Your Bedding

Everybody sleeps! Packing your bedding for a move isn’t complicated, but you’ll want to make sure to approach this task in a tidy, organized fashion to ensure all of your pillows, linens, and other bedroom essentials make it from your old address to your new one.

Step One:

Determine what sheets & blankets you’ll need until the very last minute. Keep a minimal amount of bedding – what you’ll need to sleep comfortably – on your beds. The remainder of your sheets, blankets, and other bedding can be packed in advance.

Step Two:

Working in sets, fold your clean sheets and pillowcases. Put these into bags. These bags can then be boxed to protect your bedding while it’s in transit. Be aware that household trash bags generally don’t provide much protection for your possessions during a move: the box may seem like overkill but it’s really a necessity.

Step Three:

Repeat the process with blankets, comforters, and duvets. Any pillows you’re not using can also be bagged and then boxed. If you know any of your bedding is going into storage for a while, rather than being delivered directly to your new address, it is a good idea to put your favorite scented dryer sheets into the bags to keep everything smelling fresh.

Step Four:

On the day of your move, all the bedding the family has been using needs to be bagged and boxed. Make sure this is labelled correctly, so you know it needs laundering before being used again. Mattresses should be protected by either a protective mattress cover or a mattress carton. These are generally available from moving companies or where you purchased your moving boxes and moving supplies. Covers and cartons protect the surface of the mattress from getting dirty. They also help protect the structural integrity of the mattress. Considering that many modern mattresses are highly engineered and extremely pricey, choosing a protective cover or carton just makes sense.
