Round up some boxes and packing supplies

Prefer to do some of the packing yourself while using Shleppers for Moving Day assistance? No problem. You can order packing supplies, like packaging tape, and boxes from Shleppers and have these items delivered to your home.

You’ll also want to invest in some materials for insulating your kitchen stuff so it doesn’t break in transit. Bubble wrap, glass dividers, and packing paper are three necessary supplies to have on hand when packing up plates, glassware, silverware, and cooking accessories. And use generous amounts of wrapping materials to make sure that your items are as protected as possible during the move.

Make use of labels

Take time to label boxes based on which room they should go in in your new house. You can do this via different colored permanent markers or color-coded labels you can get online or at a local retail store.

For extra delicate items you box, make sure to write “fragile” in all caps with a dark marker on the outside of the box so Shleppers movers know to use extra care when moving these items. Trust us — we don’t want to crack your Great Aunt’s china or the crystal champaign glasses you got for your wedding any more than you do!

Designate an “essentials” box

Set aside one box for any items and nonperishable food supplies you’ll need during the transition. This box should include any items that you will be using during the last two days in your old home and the first two days in your new one. Some things to pack in this box include: dish soap, hand soap, dishwasher detergent, paper or cloth towels, dishes, silverware, and coffeemaker and/or Keurig. And don’t forget to include food items like PB&J ingredients, cereal, pasta or Ramen, and coffee/tea.

Prep large appliances

When packing up your kitchen, don’t forget to prepare your large kitchen appliances for relocation. Make sure to give yourself at least 24 hours before the move to do this, since some items will take more “prep” work than others. Consult with the appliance’s owner manual or call the manufacturer for information on how to ready certain appliances for moving.
