This organized approach will allow you to keep your sanity throughout your move.
3-4 Months Before Your Big Move
Sort and Declutter: Go through each room, sort and declutter your belongings into 4 categories: Keep, Sell, Donate and Toss.
Decluttering is a hidden benefit of moving. There is probably a basement storage unit or attic that you have been meaning to cleanout. Decluttering before you move offers the dual benefits of reducing your moving costs as well as allowing you to start fresh in your new home. Of the items you’d like to keep, consider if you will need to pack them carefully as fragile items, or if you want to apply moving insurance towards them.
Do Your Research: Once you have a good idea of the items that will be coming with you for your big move, start researching professional moving companies in your area.
