Try some of these hacks the next time you need to relocate your plants.

Before the move: Prep your plants for the move! Some of the best ways to make sure your plants stay happy on their journey are to prepare them. A good way to do this is to rid your plants of their dead leaves and branches a few weeks pre-move. Also try to rid your plants of any dust, pests, and weeds. To make the moving process a little easier, consider repotting some of your plants from heavy pots or planters to more lightweight plastic pots. Removing some of the weight can save you and your mover’s backs during the process!

For the move: Keep an eye on the temperature of your moving vehicle if possible. If you make a stop for the night, try to bring your plants inside with you if the outdoor temperature is exceptionally cold. For transporting smaller and upright plants, use a bag with a set shape and handles. Using a flexible bag can also be helpful in a pinch, but a bag with a set shape will prevent any leaves from being crushed as the bag is lifted. For tall plants in a small vehicle, it would be a good idea to ensure the pot is completely enclosed in a plastic bag if the plant needs to lay down. This technique prevents soil spillage in your car. If needed, prop up the trunk of the plant or tree with pillows or bubble wrap so the weight of the plant is lifted off the foliage.
