What to Know Before Moving to Miami

Miami, Florida…. it’s a city of warm weather, gorgeous beaches, and exciting nightlife. Known as the third-most populous metropolitan area on the East Coast, the Miami lifestyle attracts thousands of residents and visitors every year. Its diverse and vibrant culture is what makes the city of Miami genuinely magical!

This beautiful city offers a lot of opportunities and potential. Miami is known for its vital finance, commerce, culture, arts, and international trade industries. There are many reasons why you would want to make a move, and not the least of which is that living in Florida offers plenty of warm sunshine!

Here are three things you need to know about before you move to Miami.

Cost of Living

If you’re thinking about moving to Miami, good news…. It’s not wrong to say that living in Miami is affordable. People that earn averagely still get reasonable prices when it comes to everyday living. For example, food, houses, car rentals, and so on can be gotten at low prices. There are just so many things to do and pay for, which is why most products and services are affordable.  On the other hand, there are some costly areas where the wealthier people reside. You can decide to check out affordable and safe neighborhoods in Miami before making a move.

Getting Around the City

Since living in Miami often requires commuting, some would argue that owning a car is essential, but that argument only goes so far when one considers the traffic, which, according to a recent study, is the fifth-worst in the United States.  So here are a few options to consider:

Metrobus: With more than 95 routes and almost 1,000 buses in operation, Metrobus serves South Florida from Fort Lauderdale to Miami Beach and Key Biscayne, Homestead, and even the Florida Keys. Rides start at $2.25 a trip.

Metrorail: A 25-mile elevated rail system like a monorail, the Metrorail is a fast and simple way to travel to northwest Miami-Dade and the Jackson Memorial Hospital area, with connections to Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Metromover: It’s a free service that offers smaller loops around Downtown Miami and Brickell and connects the Metrorail and Metrobus.

Trolley: This free service and runs until midnight, depending on the location. You can even track the trolley online.

Freebee: Freebee is an app that arranges free rides in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Downtown Miami, Brickell, Wynwood, Miami Lakes, and most of Miami Beach. These electric cars look more like golf carts, but hey, the price can’t be beaten.

Most Residents of Miami Speak Spanish

You don’t need to know how to speak fluent Spanish. However, it could come in handy to pick up a bit of the slang and key words. Living in Miami can be a culturally immersive experience. Even if you don’t speak a lick of Spanish now, you can become fluent in no time with a little bit of daily practice.
