Looking to relocate your business? Shleppers is offering up our extensive knowledge on what to do before, during, and after your move to make sure your business move is as smooth as possible!
BEFORE THE MOVE:
Create a Moving Checklist: Create a moving timeline that accounts for all the tasks you’ll need to complete prior to your business move. Ensure to list appropriate deadlines for each task.
Notify Your Employees: Most states require that employees get at least 2 weeks notification of a business’ change of address, but we recommend letting your employees know you plan to move the company as soon as possible to allow for questions, comments, concerns and better planning.
Enlist Help: Do yourself and your business a favor by hiring a professional moving company to complete your business move. Shleppers Moving & Storage is NYC’s top moving company for business moves. Request a free quote today!
Do a Walkthrough: This step is rather self-explanatory. Take a walk throughout your new offices and pay special attention to details like measurements, entrances, stairways, etc. This will ensure that your move goes as smooth as possible.
Purchase Packing Materials: Buy all the necessary packing materials to complete your business move. This may include tape, scissors, box-cutters, labels, markers, cleaning supplies, and of course… BOXES! We make this step super easy with our Box Delivery service!
Take Inventory: Take stock of office items to move. We recommend dividing items into fragile/breakable and non-breakable categories. Additionally, you can separate any office items you won’t need to take with you into “Donate”, “Sell” & “Toss” piles. Encourage your employees to do this with their own offices. You can even turn the experience into a fun “Moving Prep Pizza Party” on a Friday afternoon!
Reserve the Elevator: Do this in your current building AND your business’s new building. This will save time and energy, allowing the move to be completed much more expeditiously.
Change Your Business’ Address Listings: You’ll want to update anything and everything that features your business’s current address so that it lists the new address for your business. This might include your company website contact page, email sign off, business cards, post office, bank, vendors, IRS, insurance carriers, etc.
DURING THE MOVE
Have the smoothest business move of your life by following these steps:
Provide Refreshments: Offering drinks and snacks to all those involved in your business move is a great way to promote a positive atmosphere!
Assign Overseers: We recommend that you have at least one representative from your business at both locations (old and new) to oversee the move and offer direction if necessary.
Sweep through: Double and triple check all areas to ensure that items have been packed away and are ready to move out.
Provide a “Lost & Found”: Create a lost and found at each location to keep track of any items that may stray from their designated boxes along the move.
AFTER THE MOVE:
Survey the New Location: Do a thorough sweep of the new location and make note of any damages to discuss with your property manager.
Arrange Installations: Schedule any necessary installations for IT systems.
Announce New Location/Office-warming: Notify all clients of your business’s new address and throw an office-warming party for your employees!
