THE BRONX

Spanning 42 sq. miles as New York City’s northernmost borough, the Bronx has been called home to celebrities Billy Joel, Jennifer Lopez, Woody Allen, and Al Pacino. How “The” Bronx Got Its Name

The Bronx as we know it obtained its name back in the 1600s from a man named Jonas Bronck. Bronck was a Swedish merchant who sailed for the Dutch and purchased a 500-acre piece of land between the Harlem River and the Aquahung from the Native Americans in 1639. After Bronck’s death, the Aquahung was renamed, “The Bronck’s River,” and when the City established the system of boroughs in 1898, the river influenced the name of the borough.

Yankee Stadium

Nestled in the Bronx’s Concourse neighborhood, MLB’s New York Yankees have called this stadium home since 2009. Sit back, relax and watch the professionals play ball while enjoying an array of drinks and ballpark food!

Bronx Park: The Bronx Zoo & New York Botanical Garden

The Bronx is home to three of the ten largest parks in NYC, one of which being Bronx Park. Bronx Park is home to the last pieces of a hemlock forest that once coated the entire City and holds artifacts from multiple native American tribes that populated the terrain long before any European settlement.

The Bronx Zoo is a 265-acre wildlife conservation home to roughly 5,000 animals. Discover exceptional and rare animals such as snow leopards, gorillas and polar bears at the largest metropolitan zoo in the US.

Enjoy the New York Botanical Garden as you walk amidst some of the oldest trees in New York City and soak in the sights of gardens cultivated to display a spectacular array of florae.

Edgar Allan Poe Cottage

From 1846 to 1849, this cottage was home to Poe and his wife Virginia until her death. Visit the cottage where Poe himself orchestrated the literary masterpieces “Annabel Lee” and “The Bells.” 

Wave Hill House 

Check out Wave Hill House to discover the 28-acre estate that once housed Teddy Roosevelt and Mark Twain. View art exhibits and performances while overlooking the Hudson River.
