The Shleppers Team is no stranger to the New York Metro area—we’ve been moving families here for over 30 years. When you get out of the city limits, it is easy to forget where you are pretty quickly, because surrounding the immediate city area exists idyllic towns and suburban villages with quaint vibes and long histories. For many, these towns offer much needed respite from the daily hustle of commuting to New York City. For children, they offer great school systems, tight knit neighborhoods and easy, relaxed living with an emphasis on family life. If you’re lucky enough to call one of these Westchester neighborhoods home, you’re likely very proud of your hometown.

#1 – The Town of Mamaroneck

Situated on the shores of the Long Island Sound, Mamaroneck is one of Westchester County’s oldest towns. With two villages, Larchmont and the Village of Mamaroneck, the area attracts many residents looking for suburban living easily reachable from New York City. In fact, the online real estate brokerage Movoto listed the Town of Mamaroneck first in the list of the top 10 places to live in New York in 2014.

#2 – White Plains

White Plains houses the majority of commercial and business attractions in Westchester County and attracts many young people looking to live in a vibrant community without the pressure and prices of New York City. Home to plenty of restaurants, shopping and cultural activities, residents of most Westchester County neighborhoods venture into White Plains for their day-to-day needs.

#3 – Scarsdale

Scarsdale is one of the wealthiest places to live, with both median household incomes and median costs of living beating out averages in both Westchester County and the nation in general. Scarsdale is nationally recognized for its quality of life, school systems, Tudor and colonial home architecture and its proximity to NYC. It is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the United States and residents are very proud of their regular ranking on “Best of” lists.

#4 – Dobbs Ferry

Have you ever lived anywhere ranked with the best scoring quality of air in the state? Well, residents of Dobbs Ferry have—according to the Movoto rankings, Dobbs Ferry is known for its air quality and its extraordinarily low student-teacher ratios. Combined with its idyllic village, the quality of life for its residents is very well regarded.
